What is Instagram age verification?

It is Instagram checking that the birthday on the account meets their minimum age. The check can be a birthday edit, an ID upload, or a video selfie, all inside the app.

Should I send my ID to a recovery service?

Can I put a different birthday in to pass?

Put the true birthday. A made-up date is a false detail on the account, and the next check compares it.

Instagram Age Verification

Instagram age verification is the in-app check on the birthday tied to the account. Instagram’s help pages say they ask for ID or a video selfie in some of these reviews, and that the ID is not shown on your profile. Do the upload there. Nowhere else.

Finish the check Instagram opened

Open the prompt in the app, on the account that showed it. Read whether it wants a birthday confirmation, an ID, or a selfie.

Birthday. Use the real date on the account. Do not invent a year to slip past the screen.
ID. Photograph the document in the app, with the edges visible and the text readable. Instagram’s help page says you get another try if a photo fails.
Video selfie. One face, clear light, the head turn on the screen. Instagram selfie video verification covers the clip. A prompt that names Yoti is Instagram age check with Yoti.
Teen Account settings on a profile that should be an adult. Correct the birthday in the app. That page is Instagram Teen Account restrictions removed.

While the review runs, you can be logged out. Watch the email you entered for the check.

If the account is already disabled for age

Do not send a passport, a school ID, or the selfie file to a WhatsApp number that contacted you. That person is not Instagram. We never ask for those files either. Send the username and a screenshot of the prompt or the notice.
